Several people across the country -- including the firefighters of the Oakland Fire Department -- held ceremonies to honor the lives lost 24 years ago during the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Event in East Oakland seeks to empower, connect community

The 40x40 Council is hosting its Neighborhood Empowerment Day from Noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 13 at the Parker Resource Center in Oakland. There will be access to health and wellness resources, activities for children and families, free food and giveaways, and so much more. The event is free to attend.

At an FBI news conference, authorities said the Charlie Kirk shooting suspect is college aged. They also said a weapon was recovered, as was a palm print. Authorities also have video of whom they describe as the suspect, which they won't release at this time.

Wildfire burn scar concerns

The recent rains serve as a reminder for communities that have experienced wildfires this year, including the Pickett Fire in Napa County, that those charred hillsides can turn into a river of mud and debris.
