A new bill in congress, spearheaded by California legislators, aims to put the destruction from forest fires on the same footing as other national disasters.

A woman in Oakland is speaking out about a fire that damaged a small house on her property, and she’s upset about another incident in her neighborhood last night in which a small string of fires were intentionally set.

15 residents were displaced Friday when a 4-alarm vegetation fire broke out near I-580 in Oakland. At least homes are now destroyed.

The still out of control Mosquito is in high mountains, rossing from one county to another, with western Lake Tahoe 40 miles ahead of it.

Fire crews are battling the quick moving Mountain Fire in Siskiyou County. According to Cal Fire, the blaze has burned 10,338 acres and is 10-percent contained. Hundreds of people have been forced to evacuate and hundreds of structures remain threatened.

Two people have died in the Mill Fire according to Cal Fire. Officials say at least 100 homes were destroyed by the fire in Siskiyou County and hundreds more remain threatened. The fire started just before 1 p.m. Friday at a building next a lumber mill, so far it has burned six and a half acres and is 40-percent contained.

Firefighters in Siskiyou County are battling the quick moving Mill Fire. As of Friday officials say the fire had already burned nearly 4,000 acres, including homes and is 20-percent contained.

Cal Fire and area departments are gearing up for what could be a busy holiday weekend. An excessive heat watch has been issued through Labor Day.

Coastside Fire crews made a daring rescue on Friday helping a man who fell nearly 100 feet off a cliff to safety.

A vegetation fire broke out Monday afternoon east of Castro Valley near westbound Interstate Highway 580, Alameda County fire officials said. Firefighters have stopped forward progress of the fire. 

As the Bay Area braces for hot weather on Tuesday, CalFire says it's preparing for a potentially busy week. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for Tuesday, with parts of the North, East, and South Bay expected to see triple digit temperatures.

Out of control and still uncontained, the McKinney Fire continues to burn, having consumed more than 55,000 acres so far. What and how the fire started is still under investigation, but those monitoring the fire are looking at lightning as a potential cause.

Cal Fire has stopped forward progress of a 21-acre vegetation fire in El Dorado County on Tuesday. The Cable Fire incident is 5% contained, officials say. 

Though the Oak Fire is largely a remote mountain wildfire, we are entering California's worst fire months; August, September and October. We take a look at how things are going so far this fire season.

In a statement released Sunday, the sheriff's office said they are not un-supportive of community groups helping fellow neighbors, but they wanted to stress they have not requested assistance from any local militia group.

The number of firefighters now battling the Oak Fire near Yosemite has quadrupled in the last 24 hours from 403 to 2,093. Parched conditions and steep, rugged terrain are making for a challenging firefight.
