A new classical music composition program has changed the lives of a number of inmates serving time at a Bay Area jail. They recently gathered to listen to performances of pieces they composed themselves, after completing their classes at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility. KTVU's Heather Holmes speaks with retired Correctional Lieutenant Liana Whisler and Program Manager Sergeant Jennifer Aicega about how the class came about and what it aims to accomplish.

A new exhibit at San Jose State University's King Library highlights the historical and cultural contributions of South Asian communities in the Bay Area. "South Asians in Silicon Valley" features the stories of communities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, focusing on food, religion, activism and the game of cricket. KTVU's Alex Savidge speaks with Mantra Roy, Collection Strategy Librarian and Curator of the exhibit about all it has to offer.

A powerful art exhibition will be on display at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) focused on one of the largest movements of people in our country's history starting this weekend. From the early 1900's through the 1970's, more than 6 million Black people moved from the South to other regions of the country in pursuit of better economic and educational opportunities. Later this month, Zoe Dorado, the very first winner of the laureate contest heads to Washington, D.C. to compete in the 2024 National Youth Poet Laureate Event.

SEC Player of the Year Angel Reese, also known as the "Bayou Barbie" announced today on social media she is leaving Louisiana State University and declaring for the WNBA draft. The decision comes on the heels of LSU's loss to the University of Iowa earlier this week. In a post-game news conference, Reese detailed the death threats and harassment she received leading up to the highly-anticipated rematch, saying in part she "hasn't had peace" since winning the 2023 championship last year. KTVU's Heather Holmes and Joey Horta discuss Reese's decision to go pro early with Shaun Fletcher, Public Relations and Sport Communications Expert at San Jose State University.

Goodwill is partnering up with local fashion design students in an effort to repurpose clothes and turn them into new garments. Six students from San Francisco State University's Fashion Design and Merchandising Department have been given clothes from a Goodwill warehouse that would otherwise have been thrown away. By the end of the semester, they are challenged to showcase their upcycled garments on mannequins at one of the San Francisco Goodwill stores. KTVU's Alex Savidge speaks with Julie Bryant, Goodwill SF's Director of Sustainability about the goals of the new partnership.

A recent CNBC/SurveyMonkey survey found a lack of workplace satisfaction across the board for women, with 80% saying their career has not advanced in the last year and 17% saying they actually make less than they did the year prior. KTVU's Heather Holmes is joined by communication strategist and author of "A Woman's Guide to Claiming Space: Stand Tall, Raise Your Voice" for more on how women can break through communication barriers at work and advocate for themselves when it comes to pay, promotions and seniority.

This year's annual St. Patrick's Day parade and celebration will take place on Saturday March 16th in downtown San Francisco starting at 11:30 am on 2nd and Market Streets. The parade ends at City Hall and is followed by a free music festival from 2:00-6:00 pm at Civic Center Plaza. The event is hosted by the United Irish Societies. For more on the fun and festivities, KTVU's Cristina Rendon speaks with the president of the organization, Liam Frost.

Tonight a panel of women will be speaking at The Academy, an LGBTQ+ social club in San Francisco near the Castro about how they are making an impact in their fields of work. KTVU's Cristina Rendon is joined by one of tonight's panelists, San Francisco Pride Executive Director Suzanne Ford to discuss her experience as the first transgender woman to hold her office.
