Heavenly Mountain Ski Resort on the east side of South Lake Tahoe is among those working with fire crews by using snow blowers to pump moisture onto the mountains, key infrastructure and into the air.

A day after an explosive wildfire emptied a resort city at the southern tip of Lake Tahoe, a huge firefighting force braced for strong winds Tuesday as some residents in neighboring Nevada were ordered to evacuate.

Flames from the Caldor Fire edged closer to the southern tip of Lake Tahoe, after it bore down on homes and businesses — anything in its path, in neighboring Twin Bridges on Sunday.

There's no word yet on the level of damage at at Berkeley's Echo Lake Camp. But Berkeley's mayor tweeted Monday night that they hope to assess the grounds on Tuesday.

Because the region means so much to so many, the Caldor Fire has captured the attention of Californians and others with a special connection to the region like no other in recent memory.

Mandatory evacuation orders were issued that extend to the south side of Lake Tahoe on Monday morning.

Starting Monday, an upper trough will increase the presence of onshore winds that will push the smoke to the north and east, according to a Weather Service smoke model.

All of South Lake Tahoe was put under an evacuation warning Sunday as the massive Caldor Fire crept dangerously closer toward the mountain town.

While the threat of the Caldor Fire encroaching into south Lake Tahoe is still a big concern, it’s far from the only area under threat.

As a result of smoke filled air from wildfires, doctors do recommend staying indoors with windows shut and central air systems on recirculate, but as long as you're not breathing the air for a straight 24 hours, experts say reactions will likely be minimal.
