Tonight through Friday, the upper level low that enables showers to the north and east of the Bay Area will diminish and move off to the east, with a ridge setting up behind the low pressure system. This will shut off our rain chances for the rest of the week and contribute to warming temperatures and drier humidity's. Highs in the inland valleys will rise to the mid and upper 80s and up to near 90 in the warmest locations. The rest of the region remains relatively stable. A late summer heat wave begins Sunday through Thursday with the hottest day on Tuesday. Expect near 80 at the coast and 100 inland.

Checkers the pig in search of forever home: Bay Area SPCA

Checkers the pig is available for adoption at the Peninsula SPCA. It was a first for KTVU's Andre Senior who never had a chance to pet a pig before. Pigs are social, much like dogs, but the SPCA says pigs need a good-sized yard and you will need access to veterinary care. It should also be noted that pigs like to root around in the dirt and wallow in the mud.

Remembering 9/11 decades later

Several people across the country -- including the firefighters of the Oakland Fire Department -- held ceremonies to honor the lives lost 24 years ago during the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Event in East Oakland seeks to empower, connect community

The 40x40 Council is hosting its Neighborhood Empowerment Day from Noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 13 at the Parker Resource Center in Oakland. There will be access to health and wellness resources, activities for children and families, free food and giveaways, and so much more. The event is free to attend.
