The large yellow letters are the words  "Black Lives Matter" and resembles the mural recently painted outside the White House in response to the police custody death of George Floyd.

Oakland police violated court order when tear gassing protesters, civil rights attorneys say

In a letter sent to Oakland's Interim Police Chief, civil rights attorneys said the department violated a federal court order by firing tear gas and explosive grenades directly into a crowd of protesters on Friday night.

Oakland man barricaded in home with young children and rifle peacefully surrenders

A police spokeswoman said that the man had barricaded himself inside the home in the 5700 block of Harmon Avenue with two children, ages 6 and 8. They would not confirm if the children are his own, although they did say it is the children's residence.
