Two large East Bay sideshows drew hundreds of people early Sunday morning in Oakland and Richmond, where people set at least one car on fire and prompted a police union to complain about staffing levels.

Two police officers and the driver suffered injuries.

Much of the East Bay saw triple-digit weather Thursday. In Concord, the high temperature was 101 degrees, a first in this cooler-than-normal summer. 

It's been 37 years since 7-year-old Amber Swartz vanished while jumping rope outside her Pinole home. Police are examining the case with a fresh set of eyes.

A wrong-way driver crashed into a Honda Civic head on along the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge early Tuesday morning, killing the Honda driver, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Richmond PD said officers on scene tried de-escalating, but the man charged at them holding two knives before two officers fired their guns.

The family of a man killed this week by Richmond police identified him as Angel Montano, a 27-year-old reserve officer with the Marines, who had been struggling.

Two officers shot and killed a person who was allegedly armed with at least one knife and was making threats to kill people from inside a residence on Monday, Richmond police said.
