If the five-person panel casts a 4/5 vote in favor of removal, it would make a first in the history of California. Corpus' attorneys say the process was flawed from the start and are asking the state attorney general to intercede.

The suspect's parents said it was self-defense against people who were breaking into cars and had fired shots that struck their home and a vehicle.
