What was supposed to be a routine child custody exchange turned chaotic when shots were fired at a car with three children inside in Richmond over the weekend, police said. 

Law enforcement officers served search warrants Tuesday morning resulting in the recovery of more than 1,000 pounds of suspected stolen copper cable wires, the San Pablo Police Department shared in a press release.

Copper cable thefts are increasing, according to Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia, who is holding a rally Tuesday to bring law enforcement and business leaders together to discuss the impact of copper wire thefts on the regional communications infrastructure. 

Richmond Fire crews say they recovered the body of a man, found dead inside an underground Pacific Gas & Electric utility vault Tuesday, and also found evidence the man might have been trying to steal wires that contained valuable metals.
